Teaching at IBC Worship Gatherings

"The chief end of man is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever." The Westminster Shorter Catechism

How can we know God? The Scripture teaches us that God has made Himself known by different means. 1) We can know about God's attributes by the creation we see around us and throughout the universe (Romans 1; Psalm 19). 2) We can know God through the writings of Scripture (Hebrews 1:1) 3) We can know God most vividly through His Son Jesus Christ, who is the image of the invisible God and the express image of God's person (Hebrews 1:2-4). All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

"Worship is our response, both personal and corporate, to God for who He is and what He has done, expressed in and by the things we say and the way we live." Louie Giglio

At Immanuel Baptist Church, our worship seeks to affirm and assist in carrying out our mission statement of reaching UP, IN and OUT.  We approach worship from a starting point of gratitude, reaching UP to God in multiple expressions of praise, “singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” (Colossians 3:16).  By incorporating a variety of styles in a cohesive and meaningful way, we reach IN to encourage worship attenders of varying ages and backgrounds.  The focus of our worship, however, is on the message, not just the method, so believers are fueled for a week of living OUT their faith in their communities.

How can we glorify God? It is in knowing God through the saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that our souls are awakened to the all surpassing worth of God, stirring in us love for God and a desire to describe God's worth in words and actions. To worship God is to ascribe worth to God and by this glorify God (make God's worth evident through words and actions). Glorifying God is both words and actions because worship goes beyond songs and prayers to the way we live our lives (1 Corinthians 10:31).

How do we enjoy God? Central to our worship gatherings at IBC is the praise of God through words, songs, and actions as well as the study and application of God's Word through a teaching time from our pastor.  We understand the Bible to be inerrant and infallible as it is authored by God through inspired men (2 Timothy 3:16). This means what we teach at IBC will be from the Bible. Through the study of God's Word, we grow in our knowledge of God, love for God, and love for one another (Philippians 1:9,10). With this in mind, we preach and teach the Gospel which is filled with hope and grace! Rather than seeing our worship gatherings as a formal routine time, we view it as our mutual adoration of God and our collective enjoyment of God for the grace given to us through Jesus Christ our Lord.
